It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of the Rev Beryl Scott. Please pray for her and her daughter Catriona. The following appeared on the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway Facebook page.
Beryl was an associate non-stipendiary priest at Christ Church, Dalbeattie and, latterly, held a commission.
Together with her husband John, Beryl discovered Galloway in the 1950s and gave up well-paid work in the Midlands to become sole tenants on the small Hestan island off the Galloway coast in the Solway Firth. The routine of a suburban way of living was radically changed as the rhythm of life was regulated, no longer by the clock, but by the tides and weather. Household chores and earning a living without mains water, electricity and gas, became a challenge. Dreams and promises began to be fulfilled. The deprivation and struggles led to spiritual fulfilment and an appreciation of the spectacular beauty of God’s wonderful creation. For Beryl, life had come full circle with her return to Galloway to serve the church where she was confirmed and so many hopes and dreams were fulfilled. Funeral details will be announced at a later date. Please keep Beryl’s loved ones in your prayers.
May Beryl rest in peace and rise in glory.
